MARCH/APRIL - Smart! Tips – High Efficiency Furnaces
• Have Service First – getting an opinion from a qualified service company can give you a boost in maintaining your furnace, no matter what the age of the equipment. Use this opportunity to ask questions about maintenance, efficiency & lifespan of your current unit.
• Get an Energy Audit – if your furnace is more than 10 years old, an audit will give you important information about the efficiency of your unit. You can then consider moving forward with replacement or refurbishment.
• Why Replacement? – when a furnace is less than 70% efficient, it becomes cost effective to consider replacement – be sure your contractor can look at payback – upgrading to a 90%+ efficient furnace can save so much on your energy bill that it will pay for itself in a few years.
• Consider REFURBISHMENT – we can upgrade furnace efficiency without throwing the old unit in the landfill!
• Consider Hydronics – some furnace conversions can become water based – powered by a tankless water heater or solar thermal panels.
Energy independence is easier than you may think!
Furnace Conversions are safer than gas or propane heaters because the open flame is replaced with heated water, removing any danger of CO2 getting into the home. The warmer, moister air adds comfort without drying; this warm air holds the heat longer, creating even less energy use.
MAY Smart Tips – Summer Cooling
1. Think Green – typical DX Air Conditioning systems are a huge drain on the energy grid and also on your home energy bill… Evaporative Coolers are much less expensive to run and work best in dry climates where the humidity is generally less than 65% - which is a perfect match to the Colorado climate.
2. Look for Rebates – Xcel Energy has an extensive list for evaporative cooling – some coolers get a $200 rebate, whereas others with exceptional efficiency of 85% or above get $500.
3. Look at SEER – Seasonal Energy Efficiency Rating – typical DX (Direct Expansion) A/C range 12 to 18 SEER, some coolers can reach over 100 SEER!
4. Protect the Planet – Evaporative Cooling needs no Refrigerant which means no CO2 emissions.
5. Constant Comfort – because the climate is a perfect match, an evaporative cooler can comfortably cool a 2,000 square foot home for about 50cents a day.
6. Healthy Home – exceptional Indoor Air quality, Evaporative Coolers bring fresh outdoor air into the space, rather than typical A/C which re-circulates indoor air over and over.
7. Save Water – New models with Low Water Use and High Efficiency combine creating the best green option in cooling.
Evaporative Coolers are much less expensive to run than typical Air Conditioning Systems and work best at saving energy in dry climates like Colorado.
