New Construction, Additions & Remodeling Design


1.    Including a structural engineer in the early stages of the design can make the over-all project and construction more efficient and cost effective.

2.    Consider alternative materials such as Straw-Bale, Adobe, Rastra/Cempo, Structural Insulated Panels (SIP’s), Optimal Value Engineered (OVE) Framing or Insulated Concrete Forms (ICF’s).

Long-Term Structural Maintenance
1.    All joints and cracks should be cleaned and grouted and/or caulked as required to prevent moisture from getting into the building’s walls and roof, and causing deterioration and damage. 

2.    All roof and site drainage should be positive and drain well away from the building, its foundations, concrete slabs on grade, and soils adjacent to the building’s foundation.

3.    Water should not be allowed to pool on the property.

4.    Irrigation water should also be kept well away from the building’s foundations and concrete slabs and in general minimized as much as possible.
