1. Include native plants that provide food and habitat for native birds, animals and insects (including invisible but important life in the soil!)
2. Direct runoff from paths, the driveway and the roof into your garden where they can nourish plants instead of creating harmful stormwater runoff.
3. Plant trees to provide summer shade, allow winter solar access for passive solar heating and/or active solar panels and block winter winds.
4. Use homemade compost to transform Front Range clay and sand into rich soil which holds rainwater, neutralizes pollutants, sequesters carbon and supports abundant life.
5. Take advantage of City of Boulder water conservation rebates for soil improvement, drip irrigation, and water conserving irrigation timers and sprinkler heads.
